Pannanich Hills - Saturday 16th February
With a weather forecast promising good periods of sunshine and good
visibility, we were in for a good day – cracking, it turned out to be. We
had an aborted toilet stop in Aboyne. No one fancied the portaloos right on
the main street.

With 21 keen walkers, including 5 guests, we set off from Deecastle, soon
finding ourselves in knee-deep (at least for some of us) heather to Slai na
Gour where we had our first stop. We carried on over easier ground across
Black Moss to our second stop at Knockie Branar with magnificent views of
the Cairngorms. At this point, Jim, Lorraine and Elaine tool the easier
route back. They just wanted to get to the pub first. The rest of us
carried on to the trig point on Pannanich Hill, overlooking the ‘Rocking
Stone’, which unfortunately no longer rocks. As we were now on the ‘home
run’, the pace increased as the pub, the Prince of Wales, drew closer.
With only a short run into town, I should have carried out my final duty as
host, that of delegating the write-up to someone else. Sorry, I fell
asleep. I did however manage to suggest we had a pub night on Fri, to
reminisce on our great day out.
Thanks
to Steve for leading the walk and Elaine for backmarking.
